The ideal would be to be very picky about and upfront with the stakeholders one brings onboard and to make sure they have a similar time horizon.

If this is not possible, then my approach would be to still carve out the long-term time on my personal schedule to think long-term, learn skills for the long-term, build relationships for the long-term and make these non-negotiable habits.
