Part of me feels that we may see a dramatic slowdown of technology that almost no one is considering. For example, if there are catastrophes that happen as a result of AI, there may be a worldwide movement and regulations to dramatically slowdown this field.

In other words, as we have technologies that are increasingly dangerous and we realize what those dangers are, we create increasingly cumbersome regulations to ensure safety.
