Pursuing rare & valuable skills sounds easy. But, when you go into the sutleties of what it means, it gets complex and difficult, and I think you do a great job of pointing those subtleties out in your comments.

Realistically, for most people, simply following the status quo is the fastest and easiest approach, and it works most of the time.

In a way, this article was for a minority of people who love learning, are willing to put in a lot of time into learning, and who want to be world-class at a skill.
